This book, History for Secondary Schools, is written specifically for Form One students in the United Republic of Tanzania. The book is prepared according to the 2005 History Syllabus for Secondary Schools, Form I - IV, issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
The book is divided into seven chapters, which are: Meaning, importance and sources of History; Human evolution, technology and environment; Development of agriculture in pre-colonial African societies; Handicraft and mining industries in pre-colonial Africa; Trade in pre-colonial Africa; Development of social and political systems; and State organization in Africa. In addition to the content, each chapter contains activities, exercises and revision questions. Learners are encouraged to do all activities and answer all questions so as to enhance their understanding and promote acquisition of the intended skills, knowledge, and attitudes.
